Synopsis
A caravan of thousands of migrants moves across Mexico. Within this shifting mass, the stories of four women fragment and merge. Hoping for a better life in the United States, they embark on a 4,000-kilometer journey from Honduras to the U.S. border—marked not only by repressive migration policies and personal hardship, but also by friendship, solidarity, and resistance.
Sisters Jessica and Ingrid, strong and optimistic, refuse to be intimidated by police or threats. With humor and determination, they navigate the chaos of the caravan. Karen, a young Honduran mother of two who grew up on the streets, becomes a voice for the vulnerable—advocating for single mothers, families, and children. Along the way, she forms a close bond with Mercedes, a 48-year-old Salvadoran woman who connects deeply with Karen’s daughter, Katerin.
As the caravan pushes forward, obstacles mount. Mexican migration policies shift under U.S. pressure. Leaders are arrested, federal highways are closed to hitchhiking, and survival becomes a daily struggle—for food, shelter, and safe passage through military checkpoints. Yet solidarity within the caravan allows them to endure.
At the U.S. border, Mercedes and Karen stand so close, yet still far from their goal. Across the border, Jessica works in a Texas supermarket while Ingrid cares for the children, both living under the constant threat of deportation with GPS ankle monitors. Mercedes finds work as a caregiver in suburban Los Angeles but doesn’t dare leave her employer’s house, fearing Trump-era immigration raids.
4000km is a portrait of collective resistance against borders and migration policies. It highlights the resilience and courage of women who fight for dignity in a patriarchal world.
